Dr. Tara Kannan began learning music at age 10 under Gurus Smt Ketaki Marathe and Shri Mukund Marathe (Mumbai). She later trained under Pt. Pradeep Natekar (Mumbai) of Gwalior-Agra gharana and Prof. Ojesh Pratap Singh, a senior disciple of Padmashri Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar. She completed her Masters and MPhil from University of Delhi (gold medals in both), and earned her Doctorate with a JRF from the Government of India.
Recipient of the Ministry of Culture National Scholarship, she is a B-High graded artist of AIR, has published research papers on Hindustani music, performed at major festivals, conducted workshops across India, USA, and Canada, and composed/recorded music for devotional events.
Currently, Dr. Kannan serves as Assistant Professor in Hindustani vocal music at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, Chinmaya Naad Bindu Gurukul, Pune.
